There are 3 types of asphalt shingles to choose from:
Strip or 3-Tab Shingle
Sometimes referred to as 3-tab shingles, strip shingles are the most common and basic style of asphalt shingle. Made of a single layer of flat material, strip shingles are basic, functional, and do the job just fine, but are not the most attractive roofing material!
Dimensional Shingle
Sometimes referred to as architectural shingles, dimensional shingles are almost as common as strip shingles. However, they are made of multiple layers to give a thicker and more “dimensional” appearance to a roof. They are typically of a higher quality than strip shingles and often are more durable and offer better warranties.
Luxury Shingle
The highest quality laminated asphalt shingles available, luxury shingles are much thicker and heavier duty than strip or dimensional shingles. These factors not only make them more durable and protective, but also give the completed roof a very nice wood shake or slate style look.
